The Village of Dexter (Pop. 1,052) is located within the Town of Brownville in Jefferson County, New York, along the banks of the Black River and Black River Bay. The Black River is an arm of Lake Ontario. NY State Route 180 traverses the village, and County Routes 53 and 59 pass by near the boundaries of the village.

The Henderson Court Clerk is available every Monday and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. and court sessions are at 7:00 p.m. every Monday except for holidays.
