Analysis and Commentary: The Town of Burns has a population of 1,180 according to the U.S. Census (2010) and covers 27.2 square miles of land. The Village of Canaseraga is within the boundaries of the town. Burns lies on the borders of two other counties: Livingston County, to the North, and Steuben County to the east. New York State Route 70 is the primary road to the Town of Burns.

The Town was named after Scottish poet, Robert Burns; although it is believed that many think it was named after a fire that destroyed much of the Village of Canaseraga.

The Burns Town Court handles traffic and vehicle violations, plus misdemeanors and other criminal offenses. The District Attorney is scheduled to appear every 3rd Monday each month beginning at 5:30 p.m.
