About the Courts

Plattekill is a court of local jurisdiction.  It has the power to preside over traffic tickets, criminal cases, and civil matter.   Traffic tickets can be speeding tickets, cell phone tickets, and other moving violations.  Criminal cases are primarily misdemeanors and violations such as disorderly conduct, UPM, and assault in the 3rd degree.  It has very limited powers over felony matters.  Civil cases in local court are usually limited to small claims cases.

The Town adjudicates a fair amount of traffic tickets due to portions of the New York State Thruway (Interstate 87), US 44, Route 55) and Route 32 passing through its legal jurisdiction.

Local Information

Plattekill is a town in Ulster County, New York.  According to the 2010 census, the town had a population of almost 10,500.  Geographically, it is located just north of the Town of Newburgh.
